Mary Magdalena (Zerfass) is the daughter of Johannes "John" Ulrick Zerfass (1735-1805) and his first wife Anna (Barbara) Zerfass (1735-1755). Anna died soon after the birth of Mary, and John quickly remarried. Mary was raised by John's second wife Margaretha Mary (Seider) Zerfass (1737-1787).
