DENMARK COMMUNITY - Mr. Ralph Emerson Miller, age 80, died Thursday evening at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. The native and life long resident of Bulloch County was the son of the late Robert Paul "Bobby" Miller and Nannie Lou Deloach Miller. He was a graduate of Brooklet High School. Mr. Miller served in the U.S. Merchant Marines for two years and the United States Air Force in 1951 and 1952. Following his military service he returned home to the Denmark Community to farm and he and his wife owned and operated a grocery store in Denmark while he worked at Ft. Stewart as a mechanic. In 1967 he opened Miller Implement and Irrigation in Statesboro and operated it for 18 years. Mr. Miller continued to farm until his death. He was an active booster at Southeast Bulloch and was inducted into its hall of fame in 2000. Mr. Miller attended the Upper Black Creek Primitive Baptist Church. He will be remembered by his family as a loving husband, father and Papa.

Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Virginia Shuman Miller of Denmark; three daughters and a son in law, Debbie Miller Black and Ginny Miller Smith both of Denmark and Lou Miller Morren and Randy of Franklin, TN; two sons and daughters in law, Ralph David and Dale Miller of Metter and Keith Emerson and Kelly Miller of Claxton; 12 grandchildren, Brittney Black, Mallory Black, Montana Smith, Audrey Smith, Josie Smith, Marissa Morren, Tommy Morren, Timothy Morren, Lisa (David) Owen, Lane Miller, Meg Miller and Kate Miller; two great grandchildren, Mary Margaret Owen and Sarah Owen; two sisters, June M. Hammonds of Eatonton and Janice M. Wilson of Gainesville and two brothers, Carrol Miller of Denmark and Clifton Miller of Meridian, Idaho. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Upper Black Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Keith Hamilton officiating assisted by Elder Randy Waters. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Greg Miller, Drew Wilson, Mitch Wilson, Mack Sims, Michael Sims and Barry Conley. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Miller's grandchildren and the Upper Black Creek Primitive Baptist Church Deacons.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, Ga. 30459 or the Upper Black Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Mudd Road, Brooklet, Ga. 30415.
