Presidential Cabinet Secretary. Educated at the Agricultural College in Ames, Iowa, he was a life long promoter of equality for agriculture and a better rural society. Appointed Secretary of Agriculture by President Harding in 1921, he achieved a distinguished record as an administrator for framer of agricultural policies. He promoted programs for American farmers following the first World War and was creator of the Bureau of Agricultural Economics. In addition, he was the founder and publisher of the magazine "Wallace's Farmer". He died unexpectedly while in office following gall bladder surgery at the age of 58. He also was the father of 33rd United States Vice President Henry Aagard Wallace.
