Albert Higley was a veteran of the 27th Maine Infantry. This was the unit that was awarded the Medal of Honor just for extending. The entire unit got the medal even though the majority of them did not extend. The medals were later revoked. The story is told in the book "A Shower Of Stars"
by John Pullen.
Albert was from South Berwick, Me. He enlisted as a private on 9/30/1862. He mustered out on 7/17/1863 at Portland, Me. He had also served in the 8th Me. for 3 months, and had been discharged for disability, then he later reinlisted in the 27th.
