Mrs. Benson was born March 25, 1924 in Ovid, Idaho, to William and Delma Sorenson. She married Matt Benson on June 27, 1943, in New York City, N.Y. She was a graduate of Utah State University in Logan, Utah, and University of Nevada, Reno, and spent her career as a teacher.
A resident of Minden for 41 years, she was a member of the Nevada Cattlewomen's Association, Hilltop Community Church and was named Teacher of the Year.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Matt Benson, on Feb. 9, 1998; and her brother, Dale Sorenson.
She is survived by son, Ken (Jill) Benson, of Baker City, OR; daughters: Julie (Cal) Ward, of Sheridan, MT, and Nancy (Mike) Alley, of Gardnerville; sister, Bonnie Nield; and brother, Deloy (Nadine) Sorenson; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; 10 nieces and nine nephews.
Arrangements are in the care of Walton's Douglas County Mortuary in Minden. Burial will take place at Eastside Memorial Park. A visitation will be 7-9 p.m. today at Walton's Douglas County Mortuary in Minden.
