Ruth E. BROSIOUS, 85, a resident of the Bloomsburg Health Care Center for the past five years, died late Monday morning, Sept. 9, 1996, at the Berwick Hospital Center, where she had been admitted earlier in the day. Born April 1, 1911, in Briar Creek Township, she was the daughter of the late John and Lela SPONENBERG VARNER. She had been a longtime resident of Nescopeck R.R.2. Mrs. BROSIOUS had been the care giver for more than 200 foster children. Years ago, she attended the Hetlerville United Methodist Church. She was well known for her baking. Her husband, Clark C. BROSIOUS, died in June 1993. The following family members also died previously: twin great granddaughters, a sister, Sue VANHORN; and two brothers, Phil and William VARNER.

She is survived by a son, John E. BROSIOUS, Berwick; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Lois) FARVER, Berwick R.R.3; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren; two brothers: John and Carl VARNER, both of Berwick; and three sisters: Mrs. Evelyn MOSER, Volis, N.Y.; Mrs. Hal (Martha) CONNER, Louisville, Ky., and Mrs. Ida EVES, Foundryville. Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home, 1024 Market St., Berwick; with Carvel May, lay minister of the Albright United Methodist Church, Nescopeck, officiating. Burial will be in Mifflinville Cemetery.
