Shirley Jean Newman, daughter of Ruby Thompson Sample and the late Theodore Sample, was born in Poplar Bluff on June 11, 1941, and died at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau on Friday, July 18, 2008 at the age of 61.
Mrs. Newman had lived in Dexter, was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the Dexter Eagles Lodge.
She was married to Larry Newman and he preceded her in death on July 11, 1993.
Surving is her mother, Ruby Thompson Sample, two daughters: Tammy Newman of Jonesboro, Ark. and Teresa Cobb of Dexter; one brother, Tom Sample of Poplar Bluff; and five grandchildren.
Visitation was held Monday, July 21, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services were held on Monday, July 21, 2008 at 2 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Charles Medley of Dexter officiating,
Interment will be in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
