GEORGE I. ADAMS, SR. PASSES AWAY IN AUSTIN Death came early Tuesday morning, June 13, 1939, in Austin, Texas to GEO. I. ADAMS, SR., well known former resident of Meridian, who had been in failing health for the past four years. The remains were brought to Meridian Wednesday, accompanied by his son, GEORGE IRA ADAMS JR., and wife and his daughter, Mrs. Lloyd KING and her husband and daughter. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. H. B. Thompson after which MR. ADAMS was laid to rest in Meridian Cemetery. Pallbearers were A. S. LOMAX, D Wintz, J. M. Williamson, F. R. ODLE, W. V. ODLE, and B. F. Word.
Mr. ADAMS was born on Hog Creek near Valley Mills, in Bosque county, August 3, 1869, and was 69 years, 10 months and 10 days old at the time of his death. He was a son of CAPT. JOHN W. ADAMS. and MRS. J. W. ADAMS, early settlers of Bosque county, and the second eldest of their 12 children.
Most of his life was spent in Meridian, where he held positions as clerk, abstracter, and engaged in farming and ranching. He made the race for county tax collector in 1922 and 1924, and was a school trustee for several years.
He was married to JULIA SOPHIE BLACKMORE at Meridian on February 28, 1902. Mrs. ADAMS preceded him in death by only four months, on Feb 11, 1939.
Mr. ADAMS became connected with the State General Land Office in 1927, when the family moved to Austin. He continued in this position until about four years ago, when he suffered a breakdown in health and had been an invalid ever since despite the best of medical attention and loving care.
He was converted many years ago and united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church at Meridian. He was also a member of Cottonwood Camp, Woodman of the World, of Meridian.@<....>
He is survived by his son, GEORGE IRA ADAMS Jr., of Austin; his daughter, Mrs. Lloyd KING, of Amarillo; one grandchild, little Miss ELAINE KING; five sisters, Mrs. LEVI A. DUNLAP, of Meridian; MRS. GLAD SNODGRASS, MRS. W.S.MOSS, MRS. ED JOHNSON and MRS. T. A. ROGERS, all of Floydada, and a number of other relatives.
The bereaved ones have the heartfelt sympathy of their large circle of friends in the community."
