Sam Brooks was the youngest son born to Allie Brummitt and Mary Erin Brown Brooks. He served in the US Navy during WWll. He was a boatswain mate 1st class aboard the USS Chicago when it was torpedoed. He was in the water for over 8 hours waiting to be rescued. After he was discharged from the Navy, he returned home to Old Hickory, TN. He soon met Mildred Danner from Gleason, TN.
In less than one month after meeting, they were married in Hernando MS. After the birth of their first son, they both accepted Christ. They were very active in their church and a few years later, Sam felt called to the ministry. The rest of his life was spent doing God's work. He was an exceptionally smart man and God certainly did bless him with an ability to preach and teach His word. He had the ability to explain the Bible so that even a child could understand. He was a very humble and modest man that never wanted a lot of attention drawn to him. He was a very honest and fair person. He truly did live what he preached. He retired from the pastorate due to his health but never retired from preaching God's word. On Friday, before he was taken to the hospital for the last time, he made a recording for a radio broadcast. It took him most of the day due to his being unable to get his breath. Heart problems and diabetes (a Brooks trait) certainly took its toll on this wonderful man that I can so proudly say was my dad.

He and Mildred had four children:
James Walton (Helen VanHooser)
Mary Diane (Virgil Moore)
Kathy Jean (Bob Raymer)
Joe Lynn (Lisa Rymer)

Sam Brooks was referred to as a giant of a man by a lot of people. To his family he was a wonderful husband, father and papaw. We will never stop missing him!!
