Montie Inez Scott Murphy was born on Nov. 12, 1910, to Joseph Riley and Millie May Beck Scott in Frisco, Okla., and went home to be with the Lord on April 5, 2005, in Healdton, Okla., after a short illness.

Montie, known lovingly as "Bun" to her family, grew up in Pontotoc County, attending school in Union Valley and Latta High. Montie had a love of life and especially music and often played the piano and would sing at country dances while her brother, Mick, played the fiddle. On Dec. 24, 1930, she and Bedford Forrest "Bud" Murphy were married in Union Valley, Okla. They made their home where the oil patch took them until settling in Rush Springs, Okla., in the summer of 1957 where they lived until they relocated to Healdton, Okla., in the spring of 1993 to be closer to family. Montie loved the Lord and was an active member of First United Methodist churches in Stonewall and Rush Springs, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school, both children and adults, for many years. She was president of the United Methodist Women for years and was active in missions. Montie also loved to cook for her family. She also provided numerous luncheons for the Rush Springs Lion's Clubs.

Montie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sons, Johnny Joe Murphy and Norman Franklin Murphy; a daughter, Shirley Ann Daniel; a grandson, Kenton Lance Murphy; three brothers, William "Bill" Scott, Ivan "Jerry" Scott and Herman "Mick" Scott; and two sisters, Winnie May Scott and Ruby Goodby.
