Alton Jenkins
NORFOLK - Services for Alton H. Jenkins, 86, of Norfolk will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church with burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery and military rites by American Legion Post 16 and VFW Post 1644. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Friday at the Home for Funerals.
Mr. Jenkins died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Faith Regional Health Services.

Alton was born on May 19, 1922, on a farm near Carroll, the son of Herbert and Elsie (Roberts) Jenkins. He was raised in Carroll and Wayne before graduating from Crawford High School in 1940. Following his graduation Alton moved to Norfolk.
Alton entered the U.S. Army on Oct. 9, 1942, and later served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He served in the European Theater during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 10, 1945, and returned to Norfolk.
On Aug. 18, 1946, Alton married Edna Fischer at Christ Lutheran Church in Norfolk.
Alton was a Norfolk policeman before he owned and operated Al's Electric Wholesale. Later, he managed Hawkeye Electric Supply. Sometime after that he changed careers and managed several feed facilities. He most recently worked as the bookkeeper for Lee Electric.
He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and VFW Post 1644.
Alton is survived by his children, Larry Young Jenkins, Karen and her husband Sam Kohler, Robert and Vickie Jenkins, all of Norfolk, and John and his wife Margret Jenkins of Pierce, and eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
