He was a son of the late John Franklin and Linnie (Rhoades) Spory.
Al was in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the American Legion. He was a self employed farmer for a number of years before moving to Hanover and taking a position with Sheets Brothers as service manager of the farm equipment division. Al was also a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover, the Republican Club, Hanover, and the Hanover Home Association.
He was the husband of 57 years of Evelyn Ruth (Saylor) Spory until her passing March 27, 2002, and surviving are a son, William R. and wife, Sarah Spory of Hanover; two grandsons, Wade Douglas and wife, Robin Spory of Hanover, and Hugh McPherson and wife, Janine of New Park; two granddaughters, Gretchen McPherson and Sarah McPherson; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Wiemer of Johnstown and Dorcas Friedline of New Martinsburg, WV.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Gail McPherson; and a brother, James Spory.
Interment was in Thomas Mennonite Cemetery, Thomas Mill.
