When the Revolutionary War began, he enlisted with the Connecticut troops and served one year in Col. Andrew Ward's regiment, beginning in May of 1776, and for four months in Col. Cook's regiment, beginning in July of 1777. He was present at the surrender of Gen. John Burgoyne at Saratoga 17 October 1777.
Following the war, Obadiah married Ahinoam Holcombe, daughter of Joshua Holcombe (1724-1784) and and Martha Griffin, 25 September 1780 at Simsbury. They are on the church covenant at Salmon Brook 1793. He was school commissioner in 1795.
