son of Amos Walton Ball and Eliza Jane Earley Ball, married Katherine Baer (divorced 1903), second marriage to Rena Reagles Shelhamer. In 1899 he went to the gold fields in Alaska & Canada, with his brother Hiram Kingsley Ball, (1900-1903) with good success. While there was awarded a gold medal by the Canadian government and presented by Captain Rutledge of Dawson. Returned to his 135 acre family farm. Held membership with Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He was a graduate of Edinboro State Teachers College. When he knew he was dying of cancer, he handcarved his headstone and made his own casket.
