Ruby Lee Devin Feb. 10, 1934 - July 9, 2008 Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary Graveside services for Ruby Lee Devin will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at 9:30 a.m., at Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Park, 2739 Panama Lane. Ruby Lee Devin was born on February 10, 1934 in Cowden, Oklahoma, and peacefully passed away July 9, 2008 at her home in Bakersfield, California surrounded by her loving family. She was 14 years old when her family moved to Bakersfield to escape the Oklahoma Dust Bowl. Ruby attended Arvin High School and was a stand out athlete in all sports. She met her high school sweetheart Jim at Arvin High, they were married on September 24, 1951. For 54 years they were happily married, before his death in 2006. Ruby's family was her passion. She lovingly provided for her and Jim's six children no matter how hard times were. The family was always together for holidays, birthdays and camping trips. She was a terrific story teller, re-living her children's adventures as if they just happened last week. Ruby had four loves in her life; her family, gambling at casinos, playing cards with family and friends, and playing bingo at a local hall where she had a reserved seat. She was most proud of and survived by her six children, son; Rick Devin, sons and daughters-in-law; Steven and Sandy Devin, Danny and Karen Devin, Kenny and Kathy Devin, daughter; Pamela Devin, daughter and son-in-law; Kathy and Tim Carlon. Ruby was also survived by 28 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, brothers; Troy - Bill Miller, Guy Miller, brother and sister-in-law; Leroy and Mary Miller, sisters and brother-in-laws, Margaret and Jay Mandrel, Norma and Ronald Huckaby, Margie and Ron Gunther, sisters; Doris Cummings, Ida Littlefield, Joyce Maynard, and Claudine Caldwell. She was preceded in death by her parents Guy and Dicey Miller, husband Jim Devin, and brother Homer. She will be greatly missed and always be in our hearts. Ruby's family would like to thank the Heart Hospital and Dr. Black. Reception immediately following at the home of Danny and Karen Devin. No visitation is scheduled.
