Grimes-Graham Genealogy-Frances Grimes Sitherwood, p.41,42
Sarah Grimes (Peter 5. George 1) daughter of Peter and Mary (Shearin) Grimes born at the old homestead near Waynesburg, PA November 12, 1814; named for her maternal grandmother, Sarah Miller Shearin. Her parents moved to Center Township, Greene County, PA in her infancy; there she attended the primitive school and learned the milliner trade. She married Nathaniel Jennings Moore, January 30, 1838; he was born in Waynesburg, PA May 30, 1814, son of Carl and Annie Jennings Moore. They resided on a farm below the Hopewell School House for about 18 years; left there in 1856 for Illinois, going by steamboat down the Ohio River to Cairo, IL. Then up the Mississippi River to Galena IL, the journey taking about 3 weeks. Mr. Moore was a millwright and was well acquainted with U.S. Grant, who at that time was a resident of Galena and engaged in the tanning and leather business.
In 1864 the moved to Waterloo, IA and a little later to Douglas Twp, Bremer Co., IA
Mrs. Moore died February 14, 1888; Mr. Moore died at the home of his son Greene Moore at Orchard, NE, November 17, 1892. Nathaniel, his wife Sarah, and daughter Mary Anne Maxwell are buried in Alcock Cemetery, Bremer Co., IA. ...The Graham-Grimes Genealogy by Frances Sitherwood, pp 41-42
