J Y Carroll, an old and highly respected pioneer of this community, died at Mineral Wells, Wednesday. He was buried here with Masonic honors. August 13, 1909, Corsicana, TX - The remains of J Y Carroll, a prominent citizen of Kerens, who died in Mineral Wells of paralysis, passed through here last night enroute to Kerens for interment today. Buried in the Jimmerson Cemetery.
He was the son of Abner C Carroll and Ann Kuykendal Carroll. He married Fannie A Cates on September 21, 1881 in Navarro Co, TX

He served on the Confederate side of the Texas 20th Regiment, Texas Calvary (Bass) Company B. Rank in and out was a private. Enlistment was 1862. Publication # M227; roll 6.
