Francis is the son of S. Henry Criswell and Margaret Miller Lafferty Criswell (Margaret was widowed twice and married 2. Daniel Lee Kutch Jr and 3 to Henry Ward.) Francis was born in Izard County, Arkansas and the family moved to Parker county in 1858. There his father S. Henry Criswell died in 1859. Francis died from an accidental pistol shot while chasing hogs.
