Obituary

The community was made sad Monday afternoon when word came from Creston that Ellis Garoutte had passed away at 1 p.m. after one week's illness, following an operation for strangulated hernia.

Ellis Garoutte was born October 25, 1893, at Goodman, Mo., and departed this life August 4, 1930 at the age of 36 years, 9 months and 9 days.

On January 31, 1923, he was united in marriage to Miss Erma Newberry at Fontanelle, where they resided till March, 1925, when they moved to Adams county on the farm they purchased east of Mt. Etna. To this union four children were born, Eugene, aged 6 years; twin sons were born in February, 1925 and died at birth, and Murial Francis, three years of age.

Ellis Garoutte was a world war veteran, going from Audubon county, serving in the hospital division and was honorably discharged February 24, 1919. He was a member of the Legion post in Fontanelle.

Besides the wife and two children he is survived by his mother, Mrs. Nora Garoutte of Goodman, Mo., and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Minnie Sturdevant, Elmer Garoutte (a twin brother), and Henry, all of Plummer, Idaho; Mrs. Pearl Anthonson, Ashville, N.Y., Earl of Neasho, Mo., Mrs. Faye Shadwick, Mrs. Nellie Tosh of Goodman, Mo., Rufus Garoutte and Mrs. Francis Wiggens of Fontanelle, Iowa; also the following are half sisters and brothers; Mrs. Sadie Greenlee, Spangel, Wash., C.E. Garoutte of Greenfield, Ia., George of Goodman, Mo., and Will of Inapan, Okla.

Early in life the deceased gave his heart to Christ and was an active worker in the M.E. church at Mt. Etna, fo which he was a member.

He was a man that will be greatly missed in the community, for he was ever ready to help those in need. Words can not tell all that Ellis Garoutte was as a neighbor and friend, and besides the immediate family who are left to mourn there is a large circle of friends and neighbors.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the M.E. church in Mt. Etna, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Edward E. Garrett, and the body was laid to rest in the Fontanelle cemetery beside the infant sons, who preceded him in death.
