RINGLING -- Graveside rites for Clarence Dewayne Roberts, 71, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Ringling Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Williams officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home.
Born Nov. 22, 1934 at Ringling to Lester Ralph and Anna Elizabeth Alexander Roberts, he died Nov. 11, 2005 at a Wilson health care facility. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Billie Jean, and three brothers, Lester Ralph Jr., Buck and Jack.

He married Betty Jo Welch Sept. 1, 1960 at Las Vegas.

Clarence was raised at Ringling and graduated from Ringling High School. He worked in the oil field during his early adulthood. Clarence lived in New Mexico and California until 1969 when he moved back to Ringling. In 1970 he purchased the Texaco station, later known as Roberts Texaco, which he owned and operated until last year. Clarence enjoyed watching the Ringling Blue Devils play football and also tried to attend all other school events.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jo, of the home; two sons, Jackie Dewayne Roberts, Houston, and Hal Wayne Roberts and his wife, Laura, Kearney, Neb.; grandson, Gideon Zane Roberts, and granddaughter, Micah Grace Roberts; brother, W.B. Roberts, Ringling; three sisters, Floreine Abshire, Jewel Allen and Geraldine Liggett, all Ringling; numerous nieces, nephews and host of other family and friends.

Honorary bearers are Marvin McKinnon, John Neble and Roy Lyle.
