Died, age 88 years.
His parents were Stephen Edward Brodnax (1750-1840), and Elizabeth Rebecca Danzee (1758-1840).
He married Hettie Hester (Gordy) 6 Feb. 1821, Baldwin, GA. They had several children as 1850 shows.
Early church tradition says that he was Founder of the Freewill Baptist denomination in the State of Georgia, as identified by a great-great-granddaughter in 1985. We know that John T. was in Georgia Land Lotteries in 1805-1807, and they found him living in Hancock Co and Wilkinson County, and was then in Muscogee County at an early date. It is probably that John T. Brodnax had contact with other early ministers, of the United Baptist and Freewill Baptists, Rev. Cyrus White, and Rev. John James, who worked in the early beginnings of the Georgia United and FWB church.
The Brodnax tombstones provide some information regarding their work in the Providence Free Will Baptist Church, along with John T.'s son, Rev. James Edward Brodnax. Rev. James Edward Brodnax's stone states, "Pioneer Free Will Baptist preacher; Gave the land for Providence FWB Church." Nothing in way of information for this church's organization, etc, could be found when a search of this church's records was made a couple decades ago. But the old cemetery list has a notation by his name: "Organizer and first pastor of Providence Freewill Baptist Church, Columbus, GA." More info regarding dates, etc would be welcome from a family member or other researcher.
