Born Ludwig Heidenfelder, he traveled with his mother, Mary Anna Heidenfelder, and brother Joseph Ferdinand, to the United States in 1887. They arrived August 10th, 1887.

Louis and Joseph (1886-1970) were said to be the sons of Maria Heidenfelder and George Herrmann. George Herrmann was a guard at the Hospital of the Holy Ghost in Wiesenfeld, Germany. It is possible that he was the father of both Ludwig and Joseph. He may have intended to marry Maria, but supposedly was killed in a logging accident along the Main River in 1866, just before Joseph's birth.

Louis, his mother and his brother Joseph emigrated to the US in 1887, when Louis was 8-years-old. They settled in Pacific, MO.

In the US, Maria married John Freymeyer (Freymyer) and he was stepfather to Ludwig and Joseph.

In 1910, Louis was a bridge carpenter in Pacific and lived with his parents.

Nov. 22, 1914, Louis married Sophia M. Filla. They did not have children.

In 1920, he and his wife lived in St. Louis. He worked as a streetcar motorman.

In 1940, he and his wife lived in St. Louis at 3842 Lee Ave. He worked as a streetcar motorman.
