Nathanial Nesbit was born in Ireland July 1st, 1802 and died in his home in Herrick, February 12th, 1886 ages 83 years, 8 months and 11 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Sarah King, May 12th, 1824 and with his wife and two children came to America May 1st, 1829. He first settled in what is called Wilmot Township, and in 1832 moved his family into what is now called Herrick, where he has since resided. He lived in the days of the early settlers, when poverty tried men's sterling qualities, if ever a man needed friends, it was then. Neighbors were scarce and they were appreciated when they were found, and they were found by Uncle Thaney (as he was familiarly called). And when his race was nearly run, he requested that this portion be read at his funeral "To say for the encouragement of the young men and young women, and all those who are just starting this life- that if they are true to God, and true to themselves and true to their neighbors, although trials, sickness and poverty may come, one thing they will always find, is true friends".
