Burlington - Lois Jean Grizzard Bivins, 72, of 4083 Rural Retreat Rd. passed away on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. She was born in Hertford, NC and was the daughter of the late Ryland Henry Grizzard, Sr. and the late Pearl Smith Grizzard. Lois graduated from Elon College with a major in music and organ. She retired from the Public School System after teaching 30 years and also taught private piano and organ lessons. She was a member of Lakeview Community Church and also shared her musical talent by serving as organist and choir director in several area churches.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Charles Bivins of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannine and Glenn Tucker, and Minone and Tony Frizzelle, all of Burlington; grandchildren, Lacey, Alyssa and Jacob; sister and brother-in-law, Priscilla and C.C. Adams of Lake Gaston, VA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry, Jr. and Mary Grizzard of Prince George, VA and Terry and Betty Grizzard of Lake Gaston, VA and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Reid Dickens with interment to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Friday at the funeral home and other times at the daughter's home, Jeannine Tucker, 2156 Basin Creek Rd., Burlington.
