Allen Reid "Shine" Osborne, was born in Grayson, Co., Virginia, Oct. 28, 1852. Heeding the call of the west he came to Nebraska in 1877 and found employment with Dave Hale, a farmer near Battle Creek. By careful management and frugality he managed within a few years to make a down payment on a farm southwest of Battle Creek. Here he remained the rest of his life. In 1883 he was married to Sallie Dufphey. To this union two sons were born. The first died in infancy and the mother died a few days after the birth of the second son, Richard D. "Shines" second marriage was to Ellen Rebecca Cox who preceded him in death several years. To this union were born six children: Ruth (married William Woods), Troy, Zenna, Virgie, Allen and Dean. "Shine" was generous to a fault. He was a great favorite with the children. He was of a very jovial nature. He passed away at his home with a heart ailment at the age of 86 years, 4months, and 4 days, March 1939. A large crowd attended the funeral ofthis highly esteemed pioneer.
He was buried in the Osborn Cemetery, Battle Creek, Madison County, Nebraska.
