A native of Person County, he was the husband of the late Ruth Price Ashby and the son of the late Major S. Ashby and the late Lucy Mae Westbrooks Ashby.
Mr. Ashby was a retired textile employee.
He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Gentry of Roxboro, and Mrs. Lucille Helms and her husband, Sam, of Burlington; and one brother, Earl Ashby and his wife, Gail, of Haw River.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Estelle Laity and JoAnn Ashby; and eight brothers, Ernest, Andrew, Howard, Tony, Floyd, Frank, Fred and Iellis Ashby.
A graveside service will be held Friday, July 11, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. at the Bethel United Church of Christ cemetery in Caswell County. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Howard Thompson.
The family will receive friends Friday morning, from 10 until 11 a.m. at the Rich & Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington, and at other times the family will be at the residence of a sister, Lucille Helms, 1720 Lower Hopedale Road, Burlington.
