MATHENY > Sarah H. Matheny (Starr), age 83, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, July 1, 2008.

She was born in Jacksonville, FL on August 20, 1924 and graduated from Andrew Jackson High School in 1942. Apart from the last few years of her life she lived entirely in the Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach areas.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Other than her passion for her children and friends her other interests included tennis and contract bridge.

She is predeceased by her husband Lawrence M. Matheny, Sr., a son Steven Wayne Matheny, and a granddaughter Kristen Weaver.

She is survived by two sons Lawrence M. Matheny, Jr. (Carol), Raymond A. Matheny (Marcee), both of Jacksonville, and two daughters Kathy M. Beck (Ray) of League City, Texas, and Julia M. Deck (Jim) of Peachtree City, Georgia. She also has a half-brother, David Starr, who resides in Kailua, Hawaii. Grandchildren include Douglas Matheny, Elizabeth Henderson (Eric), David Matheny (Jennifer), Laura Matheny, Shannon Lien (Ryan), Stacey Reeves (Mike), Ray Beck, Jr., Holly Matheny, Jason Matheny (Jennifer), Rachel Matheny, Lee Deck, Emily Deck, and George Deck. There are also eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 7, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Jacksonville Beach, 324 5th Street North, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250 with Rev. Ben Wallif officiating.

Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday, July 6th from 4:00-6:00 PM at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home, 4115 Hendricks Avenue, Jacksonville, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Crossroads Hospice, 1957 Lakeside Parkway, Tucker, Georgia 30084, (770)270-9898, or to your local Hospice chapter.
