NOWELL HOMER W. 45 year resident of San Leandro passed away in his sleep at home on March 19, 2003. He was 81 years old and a native of Brownfield, Texas. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1944 and attended the San Lorenzo congregation. He was a devoted husband and father, and worked hard to make a good life for his family. Mr. Nowell spent over 40 years in the refrigeration and air conditioning business, owning several companies. After retiring from that line of work, Mr. Nowell invented and developed the Vanguard Seismic Gas Valve. He is survived by his daughters, Pamela Handshaw of Columbia, California; and Patricia Jacobs of San Lorenzo, California; and his son, Philip Nowell of San Leandro, California. He was the dear grandfather of Lorrie and Kerry Hanshaw of Sonora, California; Jeremy Hanshaw of Lathrop, California; Christie Simingtion of Las Vegas, Nevada; Timothy Hanshaw of Modesto, California; John Hanshaw of Columbia, California; Jeffrey Jacobs of Manteca, California; and Jennifer Jacobs of San Lorenzo, California. Mr. Nowell also had 5 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brother Charles Nowell of Salinas, California. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Yvonne Nowell; one grandson and 4 siblings. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2003 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 21713 Hathaway Ave., Hayward, California at 6:30 PM.
