James Robert Carlson, 73, Normal, formerly of Lincoln, died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday (July 2, 2008) at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln.

He was born Nov. 17, 1934, in Pontiac, the son of John T. and Lois Wilson Carlson. He married Maxine May on Oct. 6, 1960, in Fort Madison, Iowa. She preceded him in death on April 2, 1984.

He is survived by one son, Jay Carlson, Lincoln; two daughters, Tammy (Rodney) Matson, Lincoln, and Tina O'Hara, Lincoln; one sister, Lynne Carlson, Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren, Aaron Matson, Lincoln; Chris Matson, East Peoria; Lauren Matson, Lincoln; and Jason Carlson, Lincoln.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jack Carlson; and two grandsons.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was a member of the Eastview Christian Church in Bloomington.

He was a member of the Moose Lodge of Bloomington and Eagles Lodge of Lincoln.

He retired in 1988 from General Telephone Co., where he worked as a supervisor.
