Henry V. Applegate
Henry Valentine Applegate son of Andrew and Julia (Eppers) Applegate, was born at Velie, Iowa, Feb 14, 1875 and passed away Sept 17,1956 at 12:15 p.m. at Kahoka, at the age of 81 years,7 months and 3 days.
He was united in marriage to Mary Kutcher on Jan 6, 1897. To this union four children were born: Alvin, Julia, Georgia, and Ella. His niece Irene Justice made her home with them. He was preceded in death by his wife July 5, 1934, his daughter, Mrs Julia Brotherton, Oct 6,1938, a son Alvin, July 9, 1955, by two grandsons, one great granddaughter also one brother and two sisters.
On May 1, 1954 he was united in marriage to Mrs Anna Fleming, who survives along with two daughters, Mrs Otto (Georgia) Mohr and Mrs Lloyd (Ella) Brotherton. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren and by a daughter-in-law, Mrs Helen Applegate.
He was a member of the Evangelical and reformed church and of M.F.A.
Funeral services were held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at St Paul Church, conducted by Rev A.W. Geske.
Pallbearers were Theo G. Mohr Sr., Herbert Kirchner, Newlee Diehl, Wallace Taylor, Clarence Brewer, and Frank Stark.
Singers were Walter Straight and Clester Kruger with Mrs Luther Pohlman at the organ.
Flower attendants were Mrs Pete Blum and Mrs Ben Zinnert.
Interment was in St Paul Cemetery.
