LINCOLN - Charles Gupton, 77, of Elkhart, died at 8:55 a.m. Thursday at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Gupton was born Dec. 10, 1889 in Elkhart, a son of Isaac and Rosa Willman Gupton.

He married Loretta Jane Houk June 4, 1914 at New Holland. She died in 1922.

Mr. Gupton was a member of the Elkhart Methodist Church and the Elkhart Masonic Lodge.

Surviving are three sons, Loren, of East Peoria; Charles Jr., of San Fernando, Calif.; and Herbert, of East St. Louis; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Blackburn, of Mount Pulaski; and Mrs. Charlene Brandt, of Rock Falls; a brother, Thomas, of Mount Pulaski; four sisters, Mrs. Irene Humphrey, of Pinole, Calif.; Mrs. Laura Stone, of Astoria; Mrs. Mildred Lindenmuth, of Whittaker, Kan.; and Mrs. Rosa Newtson, of Middletown; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

His funeral was at the Holland and Barry Funeral Home.

Burial was in Irish Grove Cemetery near Middletown.
