GEORGE W. DOWELL, 91, OF DUENWEG IS DEAD
George Weir Dowell, 91 years old, died at 9:10 o'clock last night in his home at Duenweg after an illness of five days. A native of Iowa, he lived in Duenweg for the last 38 years and operated a grocery store and shoe repair shop there until retiring five years ago.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Louisa L. Dowell, three sons, Luther Dowell of Carterville, Alva Dowell of Duenweg and Virgil Dowell of St. Louis, a grandson he reared, Orval Dowell of San Pedro, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Nancy Stroud of Havana, Kan.; one brother, Charles Dowell of Parsons, Kan.; four stepchildren, Mrs. Doxie Woodard and Edward Gooch of Webb City, Mrs. Rose Clements of Louisville, Ky.; four other grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The body was taken to the Johnson-Arnce-Simpson funeral home in Webb City.
Update: May 19, 2015 George and his first wife, Lizzie, had a daughter: Celia Dowell. Celia's FAG #102178968. There was also another son: George Hickman Dowell.
