Lawrence LeRoy Cornforth was born March 22, 1919 on the farm 3 miles east of
Navina, Oklahoma. His parents were Charlie and Elsie (Tribble) Cornforth. He
died December 14, 2015 at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at the age of 96. Lawrence is
survived by his brother, Jim, age 100 of Pomona, California; two cousins, Mary
Ruth and Barbara of Oklahoma; four children: son, Larry Cornforth, his wife
Joyce and their three sons Andy, Tony and David; son, Jerry Cornforth, his wife
Wanda and their three children Buck, Brandee and Becky; son, Don Cornforth, his
wife Lisa and three children, Joe, John and Jenny; a daughter, Kathy Bertram,
her husband Dick and two sons Seth and Matt; 26 great-grandchildren; as well as
many nieces and nephews.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn (Gabler) Cornforth, his
parents, Charlie and Elsie (Tribble) Cornforth, brothers, Richard, Louis, and
Ted, and infant sister, Mary Elsie.

Lawrence came to Christ at the First Methodist Church, Navina, Oklahoma. He
graduated from Coyle High School in 1937 and attended OSU one semester, playing
basketball for Henry Iba’s freshman coach, Sam Aubrey. He served in the U.S.
Army-Air Force in World War II in the Philippines. Upon returning to the states,
he married Evelyn G. Gabler on December 30, 1945 at the First Methodist Church,
Kerrville, Texas. He and Evelyn set up housekeeping on the family farm with his
dad and oldest brother. He went to work for Phillips Oil Company in 1951 and
retired in 1984. They raised three sons and one daughter. Lawrence was happiest
farming and running cattle. He always had a big garden. They raised their
children “camping” and continued this practice after retirement for six months
out of each year traveling through the USA and Canada pulling a trailer. In
their travels, they cultivated a whole new group of friends, looked up relatives
they had never met and enjoyed the sights and sounds of America.

Lawrence and Evelyn loved to visit their children and grandchildren and were
genuinely interested in and concerned about them. Lawrence was completely
devoted to his wife, children and their children, his family and his wife’s
family. They raised their children in the church and continued to be active in
their church wherever they were. All four children and their spouses are
Christians.
