J.W. Thayer, one of the long-time residents of Nora precinct, died at his home Wednesday morning about nine o'clock. Mr. Thayer came from Roseville, Illinois, to Nebraska in an early day. He was past seventy-seven years old and leaves three sons and three daughters to mour his departure. Mrs. Thayer died about a year ago.

The funeral has not been definitely arranged at this writing, the timne depending on the arrival of some relatives.

John Winsor Thayer, the son of George Washington and Sarah Thayer, was born in Warren county (sic), Ills., on May 15, 1854, and departed this life on March 5, 1930, at the age of 76 years, 9 months and 18 days.

He was the oldest of a family of eight children: five brothers, Mansel Edward, Bion Leonard, Charlie Alfred, all of whom have preceded the deceased in death. Also one brother who fied in infancy, and Darwin Nelson now living in Roseville, Ills.

His boyhood days were spent near Roseville, Ills., at which place on January 19, 1879, he was married to Mary Nisely. To this union were born seven children, three sons and four daughters: George D., Frank, Mrs. Dura Williams and Mrs. Edythe Williams, Blance Thayer of Nora, Nebr.; Arthur of Superior, and Mrs. E.A. Jones who departed this life on March 29, 1925.

They resided on a farm near Roseville, Ills., until the year 1884, when they moved to Nuckolls county (sic), Nebraska, on a farm near Nora. They moved into Nora in the year of 1921, where they have since made their home. The deceased was an early pioneer and endured many hardships. The good wife and mother passed on to the great beyond May 16th, 1929.

The deceased leaves to mourn his departure, besides the children, one brother and one sister, residing at Roseville, Ills., as well as fourteen grand children and a host of loyal friends.

Our departed brother when a young man united with the Baptist church at Roseville, Ills. Later in life learning of the way of the Lord more fully, he united with the Church of Christ at Nora, Nebr., and continued steadfast in the faith until the end.

He was a member of the A.O.U.W., the I.O.O.F., and M.W.A. lodges.

Funeral services were held from the Christian church at Nora Friday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by the pastor of the Christian church of Nelson, Rev. L.W. Myers.
