John Honas, 84, died Sept. 18 at St. Anthony Hospital. He was born June 22, 1901 in Buckowina, Austria to Joseph and Catherine (Flax) Honas.

He married Frances Weber Aug. 5, 1924 in Ellis.

He came with his family to Ellis as an infant and lived the rest of his life in Ellis. He was a retired farmer and stockman, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and he held a Third Degree order in the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; four sons, Ralph and Norbert, both of Ellis, Herman, Chanute, and John Jr., Council Grove; six daughters, Catherine Gnad, Ellis, Mary Weisner, Hays, Helen Weisner and Marcella Wiesner, both of Billings, Mont., and Laurene Evens and Stella Stoenberger, both of Aurora, Colo.; two brothers, Bill, Ellis, and Frank, Pocatello, Idaho; seven sisters, Bertha Flax, Ellis, Francis Thesing, WaKeeney, Rose Riedel, Regina Tauscher, Clara Novis and Carrie Siedel, all of Pocatello, and Liz Govert, Wichita; 56 grandchildren and 59 great-grandchildren.

Services were Sept. 20 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Father Paulinus Karlin officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
