DENISON - A.W. "Fred" Stanberry, 92-year-old Denison resident, died Sunday, June 1, 2008 in Katy. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday, June 6 at Johnson-Moore Chapel with Rev. Rusty Denny officiating.
Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Navy Honor Guard.
Mr. Stanberry was born May 13, 1916 in Denison, son of Richard Walter and Sarah Smith Stanberry. He attended Denison Schools and Grayson County College. He married Doris Marie Butcher on Oct. 7, 1938 in Durant, Okla. and she preceded him in death on May 12, 1957. He married Mary Ida Dryer on Jan. 1, 1970 in Durant. She died April 30, 2006.
He was a salesman for many companies in Grayson County. He also owned and operated the Gulf Station at Armstrong and Crawford in Denison. Later he was foreman for Hale Trailers in Sherman.
Mr. Stanberry served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a life-time member of the American Legion Post No. 128 in Mansfield, Mo., and the VFW Post No. 2773 in Denison.
Pallbearers will be Harold (Jon) Doane, Justin Clayton Doane, Donny Reynolds, Roby Reynolds, Cody Reynolds and David Beshears.
Surviving are his daughters, Carolyne Doane of Missouri and Donna Henson of Katy; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-greatgrandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Lonnie Stanberry.
The family suggests memorials to the Department of Missouri American Legion Trust Fund, P.O. Box 179, Jefferson City, MO., 65102.
The family will receive friends at Johnson-Moore Funeral Home from 7 -8 p.m. Thursday.
