George McElroy Dies at Melvin: George McElroy was born near Sabula, Jackson County, Iowa July 9 1854 and died at the home of his son, Joe, Sept.17 (must be a typo?) His younger days were spent in and around Sabula at which place he was united in marriage to Katherine Rehmke in 1880. In 1892 he moved to Osceola county where he continued farming until 1901. He later moved to Melvin. Of his eight children, six boys and two girls, one girl and one boy died in infancy. His wife preceded him in death twenty-nine years ago at Melvin, his son, Marion died at Sioux City two years ago last spring. He is survived by : Four sons and one daughter: Allen of Crocker, SD, Clarence of Datyon Ore, George of Creston, Mont, Joe of Melvin, IA, and Mabel of Los Angeles, Calif, fourteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren; one brother of Los Angeles, Calif, and one sister of Jackson county, IA.
