Esther Louise Ahrenkiel of Springfield died at 7:25 a.m. Wednesday at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Petersburg. She was born near Petersburg, the daughter of Christian Madsen and Karen Marie Hansen Ahrenkiel. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Squire Ahrenkiel, William Ahrenkiel, Lawrence Ahrenkiel and Chris Ahrenkiel; and five sisters, Marie Brown, Anna Ahrenkiel, Christina Ahrenkiel, Alma Faye Henderson and DeEtta Ione Kinner.

Miss Ahrenkiel worked for the state for more than 40 years in the purchasing department. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Springfield and had been a member of Oak Crest Country Club.

Surviving several nieces and nephews.

Services at Mott and Henning Funeral Home in Athens, with the Rev. Norman Mendell officiating. Burial in Hall Cemetery in Athens.
