Otis Lee James Jr., 81, passed away in Dallas on Monday, June 23, 2008.
Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. Interment: Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas.
Born on July 18, 1926, in Fort Worth, he was preceded in death by his father, Otis Lee James Sr., and his mother, Isabella Storrie James.
Otis served in the U.S. Navy as a Merchant Marine during World War II. A graduate of Rice University, Otis received his master's from the University of Texas at Austin. He was an independent oil producer and a member of the Texas Alliance of Energy.
Otis was an avid tennis player, world traveler and fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He could often be found barbecuing with friends and family and could always be relied upon to update you about the weather. Otis loved to laugh, never failing to bring a smile to everyone's face.
Whether reminiscing about his rollicking times in San Francisco before shipping out during World War II or recounting his flight aboard the DH-106 Comet, the first commercial jet airliner to reach production, he always had a story to tell and was a font of information.
Otis will be forever loved and greatly missed. You are in our hearts forever and we thank you for blessing us with your love.
Survivors: His wife, Gretchen Hall James; stepchildren, Heidi H. Bass, Audrey Hall, Robert A. Hall Jr.; and 3 stepgrandchildren; sister, Mary Beth and her husband, Jack Williamson; nephew, John Williamson; niece, Julie Whitcomb.
