Lowell Wayne Archer Sr., 79, died Jan. 23, 2003 at his home in Gardnerville. He was born Aug. 7, 1923 in Bedison, Missouri, to Robert Everett Archer and Ethel Ellen Archer.

He attended schools in Des Moines, Iowa and earned a bachelor's degree in history and a master's degree in education from the University of Southern California.

Mr. Archer lived in Gardnerville since 1992, coming from Simi Valley and Bellflower, California. He taught special education in Bellflower Elementary Schools for 30 years and substituted in Simi Valley and Douglas County schools.

Mr. Archer owned an arts and crafts business in Bellflower and served as president of the California Teacher's Association. He also served on the board of the Southern California Hobby Industry Association.

Mr. Archer served in the U.S. Army during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

He was preceded in death by wife, Bennie Irene Archer, in 2001; and sister, Elaine Vermace, in 1969.

Surviving are son, Lowell Archer Jr., daughter-in-law, Felicia Archer, grandson, Wayne Archer III, and granddaughter, Mariah Mercedes Archer, all of Gardnerville; brothers: Robert (Minnie) Archer Jr., of Whittier, CA, and Doyle Archer, of Hesperia, CA; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held Jan. 28 in Minden. Burial at Eastside Memorial Park followed the service.

Memorial contributions in Mr. Archer's honor may be made to Valley Springs Baptist Church in Gardnerville.
