MRS. DAMME DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Mrs. Emma Sophia Damme, 71, passed away at Community Memorial hospital at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, after an illness of over a year.
Mrs. Damme was born in the Nebraska City community on July 26, 1880, the daughter of John G. and Dorothea Roos. She was united in marriage at the home of her parents near Lorton to H. Wm. Damme on January 27, 1904.
Immediately after their marriage the couple began making their home on the Damme farm in the Lorton community where they lived until August 1946, when they retired and moved to Syracuse.
Three children were born to this union -- Viola, Alfred and Victor.
Mrs. Damme was a member of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church (McWiliams) from childhood until her death. She was a member of the Women's Guild of that church as well as the women's organization of St. John church in Syracuse.
She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Alma, and two grandchildren, Norman Dean Damme and Nora Jean Damme, also two brothers and one sister, Emil and George Roos and Mrs. Mary Kuehn.
She is survived by her husband, H. Wm. Damme, the three children, Mrs. Oscar Klingsick and Alfred and Victor Damme of Talmage, one son-in-law, and two daughters-in-law, as well as five grandchildren; Delores, Alfred Jr., Vernita and Duane Damme and Ervin Klingsick. Also surviving are four brothers and one sister, Albert and Otto Roos of Dunbar, Fred and Theodore Roos of Syracuse and Mrs. Mina Roos of Los Angeles, Calif.
Funeral services are being held today (Friday) at the Tonsing & Son Funeral Home at 1:30 and at St. John;s church, Talmage, at 2:30 p.m. Rev. A. Brueggemann of McWilliams is in charge.
