Obituary, presumably a Lena, IL, newspaper, no date:C. M. HOTCHKISS PASSED AWAY AT KEOTA, IOWA C. M. Hotchkiss, better known as Matt, passed away at Keota, Iowa at the home of his son William Hotchkiss, New Year's morning [1933], at the age of ninety four years. Mr. Hotchkiss was born in Vermont, November 8th, 1838. He came to Illinois when a small boy. He began teaching school at the age of nineteen years in the Montague district, and later at Pearl City. In 1875 he purchased a farm in Keota, IA., where he lived until his wife Sarah Barklow, of Pearl City, passed away some thirty years ago, and was later cared for by his four children, William, James and Mrs. F. M. Herr of Keota, Iowa, and Mrs. Bertha Garner of Lanark, Ill. One brother, H. H. Hotchkiss of this city, is the only one left, of a family of four sons and two daughters.
