Elgy grew up and attended school in Shaw and Hollandale, Miss. He joined the US Army in 1952. He was a medical technician.

He served two tours in Vietnam. His awards and medals include: Bronze Star Medal; Good Conduct Medal, 4th award; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service medal; Army Commendation Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal with 60-device; 6 Overseas Service Stripes; 7 Overseas Service Bars, and Expert Badge (Rifleman).

He retired from the US Army on Feb. 28, 1973, at Fort Sill, after 20 years of service. He married Ida Clinton on Oct 10, 1978, in El Paso, TX. He had previously been employed by Peoples Cab in Lawton. He was a Baptist.

Survivors include his wife of the home; children: Danny, Sapulpa, OK, and Ricky, Fort Drum, NY; Anna Sue Voglesong, Walters; Rebecca Hall, Lawton; and Elizabeth Shiebien, Somers Point, NJ; Brothers: Henry, Sidon, MS; Joe, Little Rock, AR; Cecil, Gainesville, TX; Gene, Anahuac, TX; Arnold, Gulfport, MS; Guthrie, Cabot, AR; and Wayne, Huffman, TX; 8 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

Funeral for retired Staff Sgt. Elgy Hall, 66, Lawton, was held on Friday, 17 Jan 1997, in Huddleston's Funeral Home Chapel. Mr. Hall died Monday at his home. Burial with military honors was in Veterans Field of Honor at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
