Otis A. DeMond, 80, of 207 Foster Ave., died Friday in Lakeview General Hospital. He had been in ill health for about one year and hospitalized for the past three days. He was born in Augusta and was a lifelong area resident. He worked for Battle Creek Public Schools for 42 years in the maintenance department until his retirement in 1968. He was employed at the former Battle Creek Central Vocational School, W.K. Kellogg and Southwestern junior high schools and Lincoln and Franklin elementary schools. He had been affiliated with Battle Creek Boy Scouts for 24 years and was at one time a scoutmaster of Troop 14 at Franklin School and Southwestern Junior High School. His wife, the former Ruby McConkey, died in 1966. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Earl (Elizabeth) Furlong of Nashville; a son, Otis A. DeMond Jr. of 6269 6-Mile Road; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and a sister, Margaret Ingram of Galesburg. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Bedford Cemetery.
