Vera Elaine Davis died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 in Red Bluff following a lengthy illness. She was 86.

Vera was born Sept. 26, 1921 in Spalding, Neb., the daughter of Enoch and Clurasey Hinkle. She moved to Tehama County in 1938 and married Wilber Frank Davis on March 21, 1939.

She was a homemaker as well as helpmate on their farm in the Bend, where they grew peaches, prunes and berries. Later they raised cattle. Vera always planted a garden every year, as well as a yard full of flowers. She was also an avid crocheter, having won several ribbons at our county fair. Vera was a member of the First Christian Church.

She is survived by daughters Patricia Fay Mehringer and Gloria Jean Maples, both of Red bluff; grandchildren Kathy Ross, Julie Spencer and Bob Maples; great-grandsons Lance and Wyatt Spencer and Andrew Maples.

Vera was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Wilber, in 1999; brothers Irven, Elzie, Royal, Edgar and Clatus; sister Zella Hill and grandson David Maples.

A viewing will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of the Flowers. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday at Oak Hill Cemetery.
