James William Meeker, son of Hiram Newell and Serenia Ann (Shanks) Meeker, grandson of Edwin H. and Priscilla (Elliott) Meeker, and great-grandson of Grove and Phebe (Payne) Meeker, was a barber by occupation and from old photos his known places of employment were Batesville, AR; Madil, OK; Vici, OK, and Springdale, AR.

He married at least 4 times. This info is from the records of his son, John Edwin Meeker, and his daughter, Lucy "Marie" Meeker Reynolds. Also, the following info is from their records:
James William Meeker, age 18, married (1) Miss Tennie Whitten, age 19, at Sidney, Sharp Co., AR on Dec. 19, 1899. The photo of her tombstone says, "Tennie Meeker, b. 2-2-1878, d. 10-22-1958." They had a son, James C. (Cornelius?) "Neely" Meeker. His tombstone says, "J. C. (Neely), b. 9-16-1900 d. 12-3-1950." His death certificate says he "d. 12-4-50, Jonesboro, Craighead Co., AR, accidental drowning due to car wreck. He was b. at Evening Shade, Sharp Co., AR. His wife was Rachael Meeker." There is a photo in the family album of a little girl about a year old and it says, "Lena Pearl Meeker, ca. 1908, dau. of James William Meeker and Amanda Pearl Humphrey."
