The Ellensburg Capital
25 June 1925
The many friends of Mrs. James T. McDowell will regret to learn of her death early Wednesday morning at the Ellensburg Hospital. Mrs. McDowell had been a sufferer from gall stones for some months and an operation for their removal was preformed several days ago. She apparently rallied from the operation but Tuesday took a turn for the worse, and death occurred a few hours later.
Della May Holland was born in Missouri in 1881. She came West with her parents two years later and settled with them in Oregon where they spent several years. The family later moved to Ellensburg and in 1905 she married J. T. McDowell, one of the pioneer merchants of the city, proprietor of McDowell's 15 cent store.
Three children were born of the union, Louise, Gerald, and Edyth, and they with their father survive. She also leaves her mother, Mrs. C. E. Holland of Ellensburg, one sister, Mrs. F. E. Busby of Ellensburg, and two brothers, C. W. Holland and C. E. Holland, both of Howe, Idaho.
Mrs. McDowell was a member of several women's clubs in Ellensburg, particularly the Pythian Sisters. In this organization, she took the most active part and her efforts made her a host of friends.
