E. Walter "Dick" Bentley -- Valparaiso -- E. Walter "Dick" Bentley, age 85, of Valparaiso, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at the VNA Horton Hospice Center. A Valparaiso resident since 1966, formerly of Gary, he was born April 19, 1921 in London, KY to William and Mary (Chestnut) Bentley. Mr. Bentley served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during WWII and guarded the Pentagon before serving in the infantry in France, Germany, Austria and the Italian border. Following his military service, he owned and operated Bentley's Service in Gary from 1947 to 1990 and then Bentley's Auto Sales until his retirement in 1995.
On October 11, 1943 in Washington, D.C., he married Bette McKenney who survives, along with two children: Jon Bentley of Indianapolis and Dawn Bentley of Valparaiso; four grandchildren: Styan (Stephanie) Bentley of Valparaiso, Michael Bentley Rand of Elkhart, Kaya Warner of Joppa, MD and Guion Bentley of London, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and five brothers.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 22, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso with Rev. Merlin Bray officiating. Burial at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, April 21, 2006 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice. moellerfuneralhome.com
