William R. Hinds, 55, Chatham, formerly of Springfield, died at 1:10 a.m. Monday in Memorial Medical Center. He was born in Carrolton and had lived in Chatham since 1961. He was employed with the University of Illinois Division of Services for Crippled Children for 31 years.
A veteran of World War II, he was stationed at Pearl Harbor at the time of the bombing in 1941. He was a member of the Chatham Methodist Church, Elks Club, Amvets Club and American Legion Post 759.
Surviving are his wife, Elsie L.; his mother, Mrs. Rose Hinds of Ashland; two sons, William Gregg and Sherwood Neil at home; a daughter, Mrs. Halbert Workman of Chatham; a brother, Albert Sherwood of Springfield; three sisters, Mrs. Richard L. Bloomfield of Ashland, Mrs. Charles Mant of Vermillion, S.D.; and Mrs. Kenneth Reside of Melvern, Pa.; one grandchild.
