Mrs. Margery Lee Adamson Morris (nee Lott), age 85, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2008, at her home. A loving mother and grandmother, a gifted and classy lady, she will be greatly missed by her beloved family and friends. Margery was born to Lola Tuttel Lott and George Lott in Cape Girardeau, Mo., on April 1, 1923, which was Easter Sunday then, as well as April Fool's Day. She graduated from Risco High School in 1940 and from Southwest Missouri State Teachers College, Springfield, Mo., in 1944, with a BS in education, concentrating in English literature. She was noted in the 1943-1944 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. She attended Missouri United Law School from 1944-1946, the only female in her class, and received an LLB (now J.D.) in 1946. She was an invited member to the Kappa Beta Pi Legal Sorority in February 1946. She was employed as a legal researcher in the Missouri State Legislative Research, Capitol Building, starting in 1947, where she worked with state legislators to capture their proposals into written bills, using legal terms and precise language, which would then be presented to the General Assembly. Her legal expertise was in education and she worked with the legislators on the education bills between 1961 and 1963 when most of Missouri's education laws were written. She had the honor of working with Senator Thomas Eagleton at the time he was a member of the Legislative Research Committee. She attained the status of Senior Counselor with the MO Bar in 1997 after 50 years of membership. Margery was married to Mont Ellis Adamson, a fellow SMS college mate and a World War II U.S. Marine Corps pilot and veteran on June 7, 1946. Mr. Adamson died in February 1960. On April 1, 1967, Margery married M.E. Morris, former Missouri State Treasurer and Director of Revenue. Mr. Morris died in July 1988. Mrs. Morris is survived by two children, Mark Adamson born in 1950 and Megan Adamson born in 1953; two grandchildren, Mark W. Adamson and Ben Adamson; and a daughter-in-law, Terri Adamson Schaeffer. During her retirement years from 1980's to the present, she actively participated in community and church activities and continued to actively volunteer her time and expertise. In 1985-86, she volunteered her time to the Jefferson City Charter Commission as the Editor for the Charter drafting - Resolution RS 86.4 Throughout the 1990's, she was active in various roles with the First United Presbyterian Church of Jefferson City, including the researching, drafting and editing of the Charter Revision for the Presbyterian Women, from 1997-1998, during the time that her vision was fading from Macular Degeneration. Margery Morris continued to enjoy learning and the arts during retirement. She enjoyed several years of Learning in Retirement with the Jefferson City Public Schools, enjoyed ceramics classes for seniors, and was a member of the Richardson Auditorium Fine Arts series and the Morning Music Club. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and for St. Mary's and Memorial Hospital Auxiliaries. She had enjoyed gardening at home and delighted in the exciting MU-KU Football Bowl game on TV this past season. Visitation will be at the Buescher Memorial Home on Monday, June 23, from 9-10 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 10 a.m. at the Buescher Memorial Home with the Rev. Rudolph W. Beard officiating.
